Have I mentioned that I went to Cornell????

Well, I hit bottom today. I thought, okay, I'm out of practice, I don't necessarily have a lot of relevant skills in this job market. I can write, but most people don't care about that. I'm becoming a bit of a dinosaur. So, I'm not proud, I've applied for the lowest level jobs I can find to get my foot in the door. I find the company I'd like to work for and offer my receptionist and office assistant skills. One usually only needs a high school education, if that, to file and enter data into a database. Then, when I wow them with my outstanding knowledge of the alphabet, maybe they'll see that I can contribute to their organization and they will start to involve me more. At least that was my plan.
Apparently, I'm not even qualified for that. Friday I interviewed at Attention Homes, and it must not have been a hard decision, because Monday I got a call from them that they had chosen another candidate. I was tempted to ask why, but frankly, I don't care. She was probably young. And young, in an employer's mind means enthusiastic and bubbly. Never mind that I bubbled over about my enthusiasm about working for them in my interview. Never mind that two of my most esteemed, professionally successful friends recommended me to the Executive Director. Nay, RAVED about me to the Executive Director.
Sigh. I did get a job at the humane society where they apparently don't require any skills, but they want me to work on Saturdays, and I already had to ask for four days off in the next few months. That's not going to go over well.
Remember in the movie "Parenthood" when Dianne Wiestt finds out she's going to be a grandmother, and she cries out, horrified, "I was at Woodstock for Christ's sake!"
Well, here it is. "I went to Cornell for Christ's sake!"
A lot of good, apparently, comes from a reputable education.
